Millipore’s 30-acre Bedford campus, surrounded by wetlands and partially located in a flood plain, was renovated into a Research and Development Campus. The existing parcel, developed randomly over time, was selectively demolished to create a new campus character suited to the needs of the researchers and engineers. The challenge of the project was to create a setting for three new buildings totaling over 225,000 sf bounded by wetlands. The plan’s objective was to reclaim and reallocate land currently used for site circulation and parking into enjoyable exterior space. Plant communities and landscape improvements recharge the surrounding wetlands through the cleansing and reuse of storm water discharge.
